Tutoring and Private Lessons

The band at East Peoria Community High School is once again offering a
tutoring program to younger students who are learning to play an instrument
in grades 5-8. These OPTIONAL tutoring sessions are designed to assist our
beginning and junior high band students, and help them progress at a rapid
rate to ensure successful musical development. Last year's program was a
tremendous success for several reasons:
1) Students receive
individual attention.
2) Private lessons provide
increased exposure to the material covered in class.
3) Younger players benefit
from access to a good role model who plays their instrument well.
4) Tutors can provide
additional information and material to challenge students based on their
level of ability.
5) Younger players seem to
relate well to the high school musicians and are motivated by the
experience.
The cost
of private lessons through the tutoring program is $5.00 per 30 minute
lesson, and should be scheduled one lesson per week. The tutoring will be
done by advanced high school band members. Payment for lessons should be at
the time of the lesson.
Many of
the high school student-tutors are currently taking private lessons from
professional musicians, and can share this level of expertise with their
grade school and junior high students.
