| Woodrow Wilson is located in
the heart of East Peoria, just a few blocks away from
EastSide Center. Wilson is one of the three K-2
facilities in District #86 that services approximately
200 students. At Woodrow Wilson, we have classroom
teachers and support staff. At
each grade level collaborative classrooms have been
established to integrate students with need into a
regular classroom. Our support staff
is made up of one Reading Specialist, one collaborative
teacher and one collaborative aide. We also have a
Life Skills
classroom in our building.
Read Around the World
Woodrow
Wilson School’s
building reading theme
How it works:
First day of each
month, students take a calendar home. Students record
their minutes/books read for the month and parents sign
it. It is due by the due date at the bottom of the
calendar, either a Wednesday or a Friday. As each child
returns their calendar teacher places a sticker on the
classroom chart in the appropriate column and also a
checkmark on the class record sheet. The class record
sheet will be given to you along with stickers and
student prizes at the end of each month.
Prizes: Each student who brings a calendar back
to school will receive a coin from a foreign country to
begin their own coin collections!
Challenge:
The equator is 24,902 miles long. That is, it is 24,902
miles around the world at its widest point. Since we
are going to “Read Around the World”, we will be keeping
track in the front hallway how many minutes have been
read throughout the year. We’ll see how many times we
can actually “Read Around the World”
(1 minute = 1 mile)
Woodrow Wilson also supports
reading at home. Family Reading Night is one night
every month. This encourages families to turn off the
T.V. and read as a family.
Muffins with Mom, Donuts with
Dad, and Gathering with Grandparents are all special
events that happen throughout the year. At these
times parents and grandparents come into the school to
spend extra time with their
child at school.
