Holiday Program
Please mark your calendars for our annual Holiday Program on Thursday, December 18.  This year’s program will once again be held in conjunction with Armstrong School’s program.  It will be held at East Peoria Community High School in the Eastlight Theater.  The program will begin promptly at
6:00 p.m.   Please join us!

It’s Getting Cold Outside!
We all know that winter is fast approaching and with it comes cold, chilly days.  As we move into the cold and flu season, it is very important that students dress appropriately for the weather as they prepare for school each day.  Most days, this means long sleeves, a winter coat, gloves or mittens, and a hat.  In addition, students should wear socks or tights to keep their feet and legs warm throughout the school day.

Hopefully, we will be able to go outside for recess on most days.  This means that the students may be outside in the winter weather for up to fifteen minutes.  If the temperature is above 20 degrees, weather/playground conditions permit, and the “feels like” temperature is above 20 degrees, the students will go outside for recess.  Please make sure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately for these daily outside breaks.  Students failing to wear a coat or who have bare legs may not be allowed to go outside on very cold days.

During extremely cold weather, we will not go outside at all during recess times.  On these days, students will be directed to their classrooms for indoor recess.  Activities may vary from class to class.

If you have any questions about our policies in regard to taking students outside during colder weather, please contact the school at 427-5350.

Second District Assessments
Students will once again be assessed using an online math and reading assessment that students will take on a computer starting the week of December 1, 2008.  Teachers will let you know what days they have scheduled for testing.  It is imperative that students work diligently to do their best.  Students should plan to get a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast every day – but especially before each day of testing.  These assessments allow teachers to see how much the students have grown since their first assessment back in August  and to adjust instructional methods accordingly. It is our goal to tailor instruction to the child rather than tailoring the child to the instruction. Students will again take these two assessments in May of this school year.

Basketball Intramurals

Students must be picked up at 4:25 p.m.

Three late pick-ups and the student will not be allowed to

participate in intramurals for the rest of the year.

Pecans, Walnuts, Cashews, Almonds, Hazelnuts, Brazil Nuts, Pistachios, & Pine Nuts

Thank you for your help keeping these students safe!

Cafeteria Charge PolicyThere will be a $7.50 limit on charges for lunches. The parents and student will receive a reminder when their balance is -$5.00. The student will receive a sandwich and milk if their account goes beyond    -$7.50 until the charge is paid. It is generally not the fault of the student when this happens, so we ask that you please be diligent about lunch money.  We have a free and reduced program should you need that assistance.  Please know that there will never be an incident where a child is denied food in our district.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

District School Lunch PolicyFast food lunches will not be allowed to be brought into the cafeteria.  If it is necessary to bring a fast food lunch, such as Happy Meal, Subway, or Pizza Hut to your child, then your child will eat lunch in a location other than the cafeteria.  If you come to have lunch with your child and bring them an outside meal, the school will provide a location for you and your child to share lunch.Nationwide schools are promoting healthy eating and healthy foods.  Fast foods have proven not to be our healthiest foods.  Therefore, we are asking that you either provide for your child a sack lunch from home or your child eats hot lunch from school.  IF you have any questions in regards to this matter, please feel free to contact Mr. Lowery.

Parent Visiting WeeksParent visiting weeks are scheduled early in the school year so that parents can visit their child’s classroom for thirty minutes and then join him/her during lunchtime. As each grade’s visiting week draws near, parents will receive an invitation and RSVP form to complete and return so that we know how many parents (grandparents, etc.) to expect each day.The following visiting weeks have been set:  Fifth grade:  Week of  September 22nd     Fourth grade:  Week of September 29th      Third grade:  Week of October 6th .  We look forward to having you in our building to meet Bolin staff members and see what your child's school day "looks like".
