This year, Wilson students are
participating in a new building wide reading program,
READING ROCKS! The kickoff for the program was in
September with Mrs. Barksdale introducing the program during
lunchtime. Wilson staff members have purchased matching tee
shirts and wore them on promotion day. Mrs. Foster created a
lively bulletin board with a huge jukebox by our school
office. Mrs. Couri suggested our theme, READING ROCKS!
Each month, students will
receive a jukebox calendar to record the minutes they are
reading outside of school. An adult signature is required on
the returned calendar. The required minutes are:
K: 100 minutes
1st Grade: 150 minutes
2nd Grade: 200 minutes
Please encourage your child to read outside of school and
participate.
When the calendar is returned on a date
set by the classroom teacher (usually the beginning of the
following month) students will be given a ticket to be
entered into the monthly drawing for a prize. All tickets
will be placed in a classroom drawing for a READING
ROCKS! tee shirt to be given away at the end of the
year.
Additionally, we will have a rockin’ end of
the year celebration. All tickets will be put in a drawing
for prizes. Staff members may even show off some rockin’
dance moves!
