TECH 2009 in
Springfield, IL
Armstrong School and Glendale School in East
Peoria District 86 were among more than 100 schools
statewide that participated in the annual TECH 2009
Students for the Information Age event on Thursday,
April 30th at the Illinois Capitol Building in
Springfield, Illinois. Miss Sollberger's 2nd grade
and Mrs. Master's 5th grade classes' electronic pen-pal
project that began two years ago evolved and grew into
an ocean theme-based secure site that was created to
provide for discussion and learning. With the
“Let’s Talk About the Ocean” secure blog site, the fifth
graders have incorporated podcasts, fact finders, a
photo gallery, and a list of student safe weblinks for
the second graders to visit. Not only have students
enjoyed communicating with their ocean pals throughout
the school year, but students have been actively
involved in research and their own learning.
Congratulations and thanks go out to Alexia, Shar,
Mrs. Masters and Miss Sollberger for presenting April
30th in Springfield and sharing with the public and
elected members of the Illinois State Senate and the
House of Representatives, including Senator Koehler and
Representative Smith!
