Fiction vs. Nonfiction Home

IDevice Icon Objectives
Books, Books, Books

This learning object is designed to give elementary students the opportunity to explore the differences between fiction and nonfiction material. It consists of a "Start" section with information about and examples of fiction and nonfiction, an "Explore" section with online activities for students and a "Finish" section where students examine fiction and nonfiction examples, post their thoughts and opinions, then read what others have written.

A note to educators:
This learning object addresses Illinois Learning Standard 2.A.1b Classify literary works as fiction or nonfiction. I have found it a concept difficult for many students to grasp and retain. As well, most students are exposed to far too little nonfiction material. Because of that, I created this learning object as well as a combination rationale and suggested classroom activities to further teach the concept outside the use of this LO. I hope you find them useful!

Enjoy!
