When evaluating web sites, remember the following!

Indications of sites that do not meet the criteria of accuracy, bias, author/creator and usability include:

  •  Links that do not work or are so old you are redirected to another site...
  •  Pictures that are missing and do not display...
  •  A ~ (tilde) in the address of URL indicating someone's personal web page...
  •  Commercial (.com) sites selling something...
  •  Little information on the author or web page creator...
  •  Poor, inconsistent navigation...

Indications of sites that do meet the criteria of accuracy, bias, author/creator and usability include:

  •  Web addresses that include .edu (eduational site), .gov (government site) and .org (an organization)...
  •  Links to good information about the web site's author, web master and/or sponsor(s)...
  •  Sites with current information...
  •  Sites with recognizable, reputable names in the URL or web address...
  •  Sites containing information that "fits" with other reliable information on the subject...
  •  Sites that are easy to navigate and use...
