Math instruction in
our classroom is designed around IEP objectives, and considers what
skills students are ready to learn. While we may not use an actual
program, students participate in instruction and activities designed
to meet their needs. Some students in our classroom work on
identifying numbers, matching groups of objects to numbers, putting
numbers in order, and other beginning number skills. Other students
will be working on basic addition and subtraction, multi-digit
addition and subtraction, fractions, time and money skills, and
various other math skills.
Available to us
this year is a program called Number Worlds. I will be investigating
this program further to see if it is appropriate for any of our
students. From what I know now about the program, students are
presented with a lesson and are given lots of hands-on practice.
Students are assessed regularly to ensure progress. The program also
includes lots of fun games to further skill development.
