Glendale is
collecting General Mills box tops for education. For each top returned
to school, Glendale will receive ten cents. The box top program helps
fund many of the programs and special events at Glendale. General
mills will also be awarding one school $100 for the most box tops collected.
Glendale also accepts soup labels which are sent to Woodrow Wilson, and
don't forget those used up printer ink cartridges are collected and sent
off to be recycled. Join in one of these great efforts!!

Dress Code
The purpose of a school dress code is
twofold. First, it is to maintain a level of respect for the educational
setting. Second, it is to ensure a classroom environment that is conducive to
learning by minimizing distractions. While issues of student dress and
appearance often become more distracting as students get older, it is important
for students of all ages to observe general guidelines when choosing clothing,
hairstyles, and accessories as they get ready for school each day.
For students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the following are considered
to be inappropriate and will not be allowed at school:
• Tank tops or shirts with spaghetti straps
• Shirts that are backless or “see-through”
• Shirts that show the midriff or the sides of the body (large arm holes)
• Extremely short shorts
• Extreme hairstyles, including unusual and unnatural hair color
• Pants that sag so that a student’s underwear is visible
**We also discourage the use of make-up on students of this age.
For safety reasons, students’ shoes are to be tied snugly on students’ feet in
spite of the fact that it is fashionable to keep tennis shoes on a slip on/slip
off basis. Shoes with rollers in them (“heelies”) are also not allowed.
Students found to be in violation of these guidelines will be provided with a
change of clothes by the school or will be allowed to call home for a change of
clothes. If violations are repeated, consequences will be given as they are when
any school rule is violated.
If
you have questions about the student dress code, please consult the
Student Handbook or contact Mr. Estes at the school.
